This past weekend Cape Town had a bunch of storm warnings out: rain, floods, gale force winds. Another day in Cape Town during winter. I was determined to get back on the trails regardless of what the weather channel said, so I packed my waterproof tops and loads of warm clothes and headed off. On the Kalk Bay side of the reserve, entered from Silvermine East off Ou Kaapse Weg, are some pretty neat trails. When we arrived we were super pleased to find that the weather was amazing. There was a slight drizzle, but almost no wind and absolutely pleasant. On this side of the reserve there are loads of view points, and the trails leading to these are perfect for running. A lot of really great open space to enjoy yourself in, and some seriously steep inclines if you’re up for it.

We decided to go and see the waterfall as we were sure it was going to be overflowing due to the rain that had come down in the morning and the previous evening. Sure enough, as we got within 500m we could hear the roar of the water hitting the ground. It was amazing, and when we got to the bottom of the fall the sheer force of it almost blew us off of our feet. This was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had, the force of the water honestly blew my mind. We made our way down following the stream and rested on a tree that looked like it came out of a child’s fantasy story book. The waterfall is epic during winter, so if you have some time make a plan and see it for yourself.
