Ryan Sandes is on his way to attempt the next massive race! If you missed the interview we had with him, you can catch up here. Ryan is taking on the Transvulcania Ultra Marathon in May. It's an incredibly difficult and prestigious race. The press release below:
RYAN SANDES TO TAKE ON TRANSVULCANIA ULTRA MARATHON
On the 9th of May 2015, South African trail running sensation, Ryan Sandes, will be looking to prove his mettle at the TransVulcania Ultra Marathon. This year the 73.3km run, always one of the most hotly contested races on the calendar, is said to have one of the most competitive men’s field in the history of the race, with punters saying there are at least 10 top names who could easily take first place.
“After not racing for 6 months due to picking up glandular fever at the end of last year, I am super excited to be running my first SkyRunning Race, TransVulcania,” says Ryan. “I have heard and seen so many exciting things about this race and the incredible island of La Palma. TransVulcania also has a very competitive list of athletes running, so this will be great race preparation for the rest of the year. Most importantly I’m looking forward to the adventure; getting to experience a new place and meet some awesome people.”
Starting at 6am local time on the island of La Palma (7am in South Africa), TransVulcania Ultra Marathon course climbs and descends the mountain range across the island, with accumulated altitude of 8 525m. Entries to the race are capped at 1800 runners and the cut off time is 17hours.
“I will be using TransVulcania as a build-up to my main focus race of the first half of the year, the Western States 100 miler. I have heard La Palma gets really hot so I think this will be the perfect preparation for Western States,” explains Ryan.
Other top names taking part in the race include Dakota Jones, Miguel Heras, Luis Alberto Hernando – the current SkyRunning World Champion & 2014 TransVulcania winner and Timothy Olson.
