Before we knew it, it was time for us to pack our bags and head out. We'd already had a decent hike as well as a fantastic trail run, and thought squeezing in a quick exit hike was a great idea.
We headed up a public road to the top of the Magaliesberg to find the start of the hiking path recommended to us. The road is abysmal, I am amazed that my Corsa lite made it through unscathed. Coming from Rustenberg side, you definitely need a 4x4.

We headed to the west and made our way up a small incline. We managed to find a great route where it was mainly scrambling between rocks. I love technical hikes/trails, especially mixed in with some easy to medium grade climbing. The views were spectacular as we were already on top, having driven there. We made our way down taking an easy hike to the bottom.

We managed to find a nice place to relax and unwind a bit, and just appreciated the views in front of us. South Africa really is such a beautiful country, from the dry harsh vegetation we get here, to the lush thick forests of the Western Cape.

After a brief pause we headed back to the main road and began to make our way home, slowly driving down to avoid any serious injury to the car. The Magaliesberg is close enough to get to for a short weekend at only 90min drive. There are loads and loads of trails and hikes, as well as the big five on some game drives. I'll definitely be adding this to my list of quick getaways.
