Lions Head: the easy way/the hard way

Kyle Redelinghuys

A short while ago I took a friend who recently moved down here up Lion's Head. Lion's Head is great because it's super accessible, the difficulty isn't too much for most people and the reward is amazing. We took a pretty chilled walk up, but still made good time. By the time we got to the top my friend was pretty beat, but the views immediately make up for it.

This past weekend I decided to visit Lion's Head again, but with a completely different intention. I'd just come back from an amazing Newland's Run but still had excess energy, so thought I could use that up doing a run up Lion's Head. Now, if you don't know Lion's Head, the first part of it is a killer hill. Most people break sweats walking up it, so running up it is no mean feat. I'm no Red Bull Lion Heart winner or even contestant (16 minutes to the top?!) but I like to think I can hold my own. Either way, it's one of the best runs I've done going up, especially after hours of exercise.

Nature is a playground. How you use that is up to you, and that's what I love about it. You want a chilled picnic on top of Table Mountain? Walk this route and relax your way up there. Are you training for an event? Take this route up Table Mountain at pace and push that heart rate right up. The same place can offer dozens and dozens of different experiences, and I'm keen to find out as many of them as I can :)
