Forest wondering, Newlands
Running forest hike

Forest wondering, Newlands

Kyle Redelinghuys

After a rainy weekend, one of the better ideas is to start the day off with a meander through a forest. The storms this weekend washed out some major hike plans on Saturday, but left Newland's Forest looking particularly beautiful. There's something about the smell of rain when you're in such thick nature that is rejuvenating, perfect for a Sunday morning.

We started from the main entrance and headed up round the top right of the forest, towards Devil's Peak. There are so many small paths that I haven't taken yet, and am always finding new and amazing ones. We ended up going to the far right, and then almost to the top path before heading back down. One thing I love about forest is how rich they are in colour, especially after a big rain.

We made our way back across the river, then ran down until we hit the gate again. Most of the run down was alongside the river through thick footpaths, and absolutely incredible. Total time was 1h30m hike/run.
