Not being able to reach the trails on a Saturday morning can be a bleak thing, but there are some pretty awesome consolation prizes. Last weekend I decided to take a trip to the relatively infamous Emmarentia Dam for a run. Joining me was a lovely French girl Lucie, and we headed out on a relaxed 5km at around 7:30.

I haven't been to Emmarentia Dam for years, and not since I have taken any serious interest in running. I was massively surprised by the general awesomeness of the runs you can do there. We started off and headed down, running through a small forest - it was fantastic. I'm used to forest running from Cape Town's awesome Newland's and Tokai Forests, so finding a place so close by that offered a taste of that was fantastic.

We then headed around onto some concrete paths, alongside the lake. It is a city runner's paradise, nice inclination, safe (at the right times, as with most things) and a great vibe. We then headed around to the top, finding some proper single track. This was a huge surprise, and I was officially in my element. After some exploring, we started to head back to the gate.

Due to company the run was very relaxed, a great way to start any Saturday. I'm really looking forward to getting back there and doing some pace work, Emmarentia Dam is a gem for runners in Johannesburg :)
