Alpine Heath Resort offers some fantastic accommodation in the Drakensberg. We have personally travelled there and have nothing but good things to say about the staff, accommodation and absolutely breathtaking scenery.

Alpine Heath Resort offer half a dozen routes on their own property when hiked range from 30 min to 2 hours. You could fit a long run in by doing all of these in succession, in the process seeing some amazing and majestic scenery. There are also a few smaller peaks I am still dying to summit, and will definitely go back to explore.

For anyone wanting to not just do hiking or trail running, the resort also offers putt putt, horse riding, mountain biking and a kiddies area which looked like loads of fun (I'm not sure what the height limit is, but I was tempted to dive right in). Surprisingly, there is quite vibrant nightlife at the resort, especially over weekends. The welcoming party did not joke when they greeted some of our troupe with "Welcome to the party capital of the Drakensberg" :)
We will definitely be back to that part of the berg soon - there is so much waiting to be explored. We managed to get loads of epic hikes and runs in:
- A great and short recce run while waiting for our gang to arrive
- A waterfall night hike and hard tempo run
- The amazing Royal Natal Gorge Walk
- Some great short hikes in the area
