South AfricaCost:100km: R1850 (pre-entry only!); 38km: R400; 16km: R130; 5km: R90The Hobbit 100 (Amatola Trail Run) is the iconic Amatola Hiking Trail, run as 2 day, staged trail run. The race starts at Maden Dam and ends in the magical Hogsback.
You will run through the most magnificent indigenous forests, cross rivers and stand below huge waterfalls, and to top it off spend a night in Cata Mountain Hut.If the 100km seems too long, do not despair, this is an entire weekend of trail running extravaganza!
There will be a 38km, a 16km, and a 5km on the second day, followed by drinks and war stories at the pub in the evening. Spend a weekend in the spectacular Hogsback region of the Eastern Cape, running through woodlands, under waterfalls and over the Amatola mountains. With shorter distances, you don’t have to be a trail adventurer – yet.
All will, however, be spoilt for both scenery and trail and will not be disappointed. Normally held in November, the races will be in April this year to comply with landowner’s regulations.
Starting times: 25 Apr: 100km (2 day race): 6am; 26 Apr: 38km: 7am; 16km: 9am; 5km: 9:30am. Pre-entries, available on www.entrytickets.co.za, open 1 February and close 20 April 2015.
Late entries for all distances except the 100km on race morning (26 April), from 6am.
